The Tipping Point of- “I’ve had enough of drinking”

I’m very fond of talking about tipping points because without them, change doesn’t happen.

Cannot happen.

These are the words that spur you into action when the pain has become too much to bear anymore.

“I’ve had enough!”

When it comes to drinking, that moment doesn’t usually arrive with fanfare. It creeps up on you, in the quiet dread of another morning, the regret that starts before you’ve even finished the glass.

The result is the same every time: disappointment in yourself, even to the point of self-loathing, because you’ve been dicking about for ages pretending to sort it out.

Yes, this is a barrel of laughs this week! Bear with…

One thing is for sure: that point can take years to reach.

Or you can get there sooner by being brave and getting honest with yourself.

I’m talking from personal experience now, getting honest about drinking can be terrifying.

And also liberating.

It’s worth spending some time putting pen to paper and having a rant about what your ‘had enough’ looks like.

How is being trapped in this cycle, or landing back at square one again, making you feel?

What is it costing you?

What would it be like to wake up free of it?

And if you’ve already sorted it out, brilliant.

There’s real value in putting pen to paper and noting how it felt to reach that ‘had enough’ point.
Then, when things get difficult and you’re tempted to drink for an easier life,
you can remember how you used to feel wasn’t easy at all.
